Battery Energy Storage Facility
A recent Site Plan Permit application was submitted to the City of San Clemente, proposing the construction of a 200-megawatt Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), also referred to as a "battery farm," on a 14.9-acre vacant lot located behind the Pinnacle Apartments at the end of Avenida Pico. Recent incidents of BESS fires, including one at the PG&E Moss Landing facility in California and a more recent fire at the TerraGen facility in Valley Center, have raised resident concerns, particularly as a significant portion of Talega is designated as a Cal Fire 'red' Fire Hazard Severity Zone. If you would like to learn more and voice your stance to the proposed Sandpiper Battery Energy Storage Facility behind Talega, please click the buttons below.

Prima Deshecha Landfill Expansion
OC Waste & Recycling is in the process of creating an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to evaluate a proposal to double the daily tonnage limit at the Prima Deshecha Landfill, allowing for an increase from 4,000 to 8,000 tons per day, with provisions for emergency days when the limit can be exceeded. Community members have expressed their opposition to this expansion, citing concerns about increased tonnage, the introduction of imported trash, and expansion to Zone 4 before Zone 1 is full, with worries about visual pollution and health impacts in the Talega Community. Additionally, they express concerns about altering the hillside landscape for trash storage, which could result in more trucking, noise, and environmental pollution. The public comment period is open until October 27th. To learn more and share your perspective on this matter, please use the buttons below.
