Dear Talega members,
In the wake of the senseless, tragic accident that took the life of yet another young soul last week, I reach out to all with a heavy heart. First and foremost, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends. It may feel natural to want to seek answers, to find reasons, and perhaps, to lay blame, but I urge us all to tread a path of compassion and understanding. We’ve had too many incidents where social media has become a platform for judgment, shaming, or insensitive commentary and it serves no one. I do however want to appeal to each one of you to take a more active role in safeguarding the children and teens of our community. Unfortunately, the police cannot always patrol our neighborhoods, but they can respond when alerted, and they will. If you witness reckless behavior, whether involving a car, an e-bike, or any other form of potential danger, I implore you to act immediately by calling 911. The calls get logged and the OCSD is required to respond in a timely manner. It isn’t anything that any of us like to do, but if your action prevents a serious accident and potentially saves a life, it is well worth it. Let this be a turning point in keeping our children and our community safe. With heartfelt compassion, Serge Jonnaert President Talega Maintenance Corporation
